The price index shows what patients report being quoted for dental treatment in Türkiye. It is built only from anonymous answers to our quote form, converted to euro and shown per tooth, implant or jaw.
A figure appears only when at least ten quotes are behind it. While the form is in its test phase, every figure is labelled as an unverified series.
What the index measures, and what it does not
It measures
- Prices that clinics quoted to patients, as the patients report them.
- What those quotes included, such as a hotel, transfers or X-rays.
- How clear the quotes were: in writing, with a guarantee, with the dentist named.
It does not measure
- The final price a patient paid. Prices can change after an in-person examination.
- The quality of a clinic or a dentist. We never name clinics.
- What your own treatment should cost. Only a dentist who has examined you can plan it.
Where the data comes from
Patients answer multiple-choice questions on the quote form: the treatment, the number of teeth or implants, the material, what the price included, the price and currency, the month of the quote, the city and type of clinic, and how clear the quote was.
- No personal data
- We do not ask for or store a name, email address, IP address, cookie, exact date, free text or the clinic's name.
- Spam protection
- Each answer needs a small proof-of-work puzzle solved by the browser, and each puzzle can be used once.
- Test phase
- Answers sent now form an unverified series. If we later add an optional check, for example an email confirmation, those answers will form a separate verified series. The two will never be mixed.
How answers are cleaned
- Repeated answers. If exactly the same set of answers arrives more than three times in one month, only three are counted. This limits copy-and-paste flooding.
- Extreme prices. For each treatment with ten or more quotes, a price per unit that lies far outside the usual range is left out. In technical terms: more than three interquartile ranges beyond the middle half, measured on a logarithmic scale.
- Manual review.Answers we mark during a manual check, for example a sudden burst of similar answers, are left out of every figure.
How the figures are calculated
- Currency
- Prices in pounds, US dollars or Turkish lira are converted to euro with the European Central Bank's euro reference rates, averaged over the month of the quote. Quotes from before the months we hold rates for use the earliest month available.
- Per unit
- The total price is divided by the number of units: per implant, per crown, per veneer, per tooth, per jaw for full-arch implants and aligners, per session for whitening. Extras such as a hotel are not taken out, so the page also shows how often quotes included them.
- Middle price
- The median: half of the quotes are below it and half above. It is less affected by a few very high or very low quotes than an average.
- Usual range
- The middle half of quotes, from the 25th to the 75th percentile.
- Breakdowns
- Figures by city or by material are shown only when that group on its own holds at least ten quotes.
- Updates
- The index is recalculated from all accepted answers, usually once a day. Each treatment page shows the date of the last update.
Limits you should know about
- People choose to answer. The patients who send quotes may not be typical of all patients.
- Answers cannot be checked one by one. Someone could send a false quote. The cleaning rules and the ten-quote minimum reduce the effect, but cannot remove it.
- Quotes are not like for like. Packages differ in materials, brands and extras, even within one treatment.
- Exchange rates move. A monthly average can differ from the rate on the day of a quote, especially for the Turkish lira.
How the figures are used
- Group figures appear on the treatment pages and may appear in reports we publish.
- We may license group figures to researchers, insurers or the media. Individual answers are never sold, shared or shown.
- No clinic pays us, and no clinic sees individual answers. See how independence is protected.
Changes to this method
- 25 October 2026
- Method published. Test phase of the quote form begins; all figures form the unverified series.
Frequently asked questions
Why at least ten quotes?
With fewer quotes, one unusual answer can move the figure a lot, and a very small group could reveal something about the few people in it.
Why the median and not the average?
A handful of very high quotes can pull an average up. The median shows the price in the middle, which is closer to what a typical patient was quoted.
Can a clinic change the figures?
Not by paying. Someone could try to send false answers, which is why repeated answers are capped, extreme prices are left out and we check for unusual patterns.
